5.13 GRS 77/GMU 44 Troubleshooting
5.13.1 AHRS Common Problems
NOTE
Before troubleshooting, ensure that no cell phones or devices using cell phone technology
are turned on, even in a monitoring state, in the cabin.

AHRS does not complete
initialization
Ensure that a cell phone or a device using cell phone technology is not turned on
(even in a monitoring state) in the cabin.
Calibrate the GRS 77
Check GRS configuration module wiring for damage
Check GRS connector for bent pins
9 If no damage can be found, replace GRS configuration module
9 If problem persists, replace the GRS 77
Attitude appears unstable
Ensure the four GRS mounting screws are tight. Finger tight is not sufficient, a
screwdriver must be used to verify.
Ensure mounting rack and airframe shelf are secure and all hardware and brackets
are present.
Ensure aircraft battery is mounted securely
Ensure GRS connector is securely fastened and proper strain relief is provided
Remove GRS connector and verify there are no bent pins
Contact Garmin for further troubleshooting

MANIFEST – GRS1 software
mismatch. Communication
Halted.
The system has detected an
incorrect software version loaded
in GRS 77.
Reload software and/or manifest using
correct approved loader card. See
Section 3.5 for the Software Load
Procedure.
AHRS1 SRVC – AHRS1
magnetic-field model needs
update.
The AHRS magnetic field model
should be updated. Appears on
ground only.
Load updated magnetic field model.
See Section 4.7.
GEO LIMITS – AHRS1 too far
North/South, no magnetic
compass.
The aircraft is outside of its
operating limits; i.e., too far North
or South. Heading will be flagged
invalid.
Operate the aircraft only within the limits
as specified in the G1000/DA 40 AFMS.
AHRS1 TAS – AHRS1 not
receiving airspeed.
The GRS 77 is not receiving
airspeed from the GDC 74A.
Check GRS/GDC interconnect
Replace the GDC 74A with a known
good unit:
9 If problem does not persist,
replace the GRS 77.
AHRS1 GPS – AHRS1 not
receiving backup GPS
information.
The GRS 77 is not receiving
backup GPS information from
either GIA 63.
Ensure that a cell phone or a device
using cell phone technology is not turned
on (even in a monitoring state) in the
cabin.
Check GPS status for GIA 1 and 2 on
AUX page 3:
9 If GPS status is poor check
AHRS1 GPS – AHRS1 operating
exclusively in no-GPS mode.
The GRS 77 is operating in the
absence of GPS.
AHRS1 GPS – AHRS1 not
receiving any GPS information.
The GRS 77 is not receiving GPS
data from the GPS receivers.
